Pipeline Initiatives

RPI hosts several programs designed to support students throughout grades K-12 and prepare them to pursue undergraduate degrees and professions in one of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The programs range from helping you with your homework to providing opportunities for you to learn about the STEM fields, get hands-on experience to prepare to enter these fields, and explore possible careers in these areas.  The programs include:

Two students involved in the Tutor Time program

Tutor Time, the America Reads and the America Counts programs assist local students with reading, math, and other subjects in a safe, encouraging environments. This academic support helps increase students' self-esteem as it develops confidence and a continued desire to learn.

Group of students outside in the RPI STEP program

RPI STEP provides assistance to eligible students in acquiring the skills, attitudes and abilities necessary to pursue professional or pre-professional study in post-secondary degree programs in scientific, technical and health-related fields. RPI STEP is funded by the New York State Department of Education.

Four students doing a hands on electronics project

PREFACE is an immersive, two-week residential summer experience for rising high school juniors and seniors who express an interest in pursuing an engineering or technological career.

Summer AI & Protein Discovery
Other 2026 Campus Programs

Artificial Intelligence for Protein Design will expose rising 11th and 12th grade students to the RPI undergraduate Chemistry and Chemical Biology program. The 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to teams who have developed AI methods for protein structure modeling and design. These methods provide the basis for a wide range of applications in biochemistry, material science, and medicine. The program is divided into two halves: a survey lecture series in protein chemistry and engineering and a hands-on lab experience centered around designing and producing engineered proteins. The program link describes the program and how to apply.
